Materials Management Director

Job Summary:

Responsible for overseeing the procurement, distribution, and inventory management of medical supplies, durable medical equipment (DME), and related resources for home health and hospice care. The ideal candidate will ensure that all supplies and equipment meet the needs of patients while maintaining cost efficiency, compliance with regulatory standards, and timely delivery. A key component of the role is ensuring smooth coordination between clinical teams, vendors, and distribution channels, with an emphasis on supporting patient care quality and operational success.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Manage sourcing and procurement of medical supplies, durable medical equipment, and pharmaceuticals specific to home health and hospice services.
  • Establish relationships with vendors to negotiate pricing, terms, and service agreements that align with the organization’s needs.
  • Ensure all products and equipment meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Optimize inventory levels of supplies and equipment to prevent shortages or overstock.
  • Implement efficient distribution systems to ensure timely delivery of supplies and equipment to patients and clinical staff.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking inventory, usage rates, and equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry standards for home health and hospice services.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure that supplies and equipment meet the specific care needs of patients.
  • Regularly audit inventory practices to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Manage the materials management budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement and utilization of resources.
  • Monitor expenses related to supplies and equipment, identifying opportunities for cost savings without compromising patient care.
  • Work closely with clinical teams, finance, and operations departments to align supply chain activities with organizational goals.
  • Stay current with industry trends, product innovations, and best practices in materials management for home health and hospice care. 


Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Maintains confidentiality of business trade practices

  • Proven ability to manage vendor relationships and execute procurement strategies.

 

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related field. 
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in material management, procurement, or supply chain management in a healthcare setting.

Specific experience managing supplies and equipment for home health or hospice required.

Environmental Conditions:

Works in an office setting.  Moderate noise level.

Physical Requirements: Sitting is required. Requires ability to always handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner.
